4. Energy Policy Report

Director of Facilities Dan Banowetz and Energy Management Analyst Brian Clark presented an update to the Board on the progress made with the District’s Energy Policy, which the Board approved last December. Dan and Brian are diligently looking for ways that the District can cut back on energy and utility costs, including water conservation, at all sites. Brian Clark advised the Board that last December the District saved over $7,000 by manually shutting everything off at every site during the Winter Break. The “School Dude” software is being implemented to help the Maintenance Department track consumption at every site, and they will be installing control units to begin moving away from having to turn things off manually. Brian also pointed out PG&E is awarding the District $11,000 of incentives for the green building practices implemented in the CTE project. Dan Banowetz stated that, in order for the energy efficient goals of the District to be reached, they need everyone’s help throughout the District to conserve energy by turning off lights when they leave a room, turning off computers and monitors at the end of the day, and advising Dan and Brian when they notice something that could be adjusted to save energy.
