Instruction & Assessment

St. Helena Elementary School continues the three classroom options started at the Primary School: Traditional, Dual Immersion, and Multi-Age.

The Dual Immersion program provides students the opportunity to be bilingual in English and Spanish. The Multiage program is composed of 3-5 grade classes where children stay with the same teacher for up to three years. The Traditional program is more often single grades.

All three are centered on creating a safe educational environment for children. Their emotional, social, physical, and intellectual development is considered in planning our style of classrooms. All three reflect our commitment to an education which engages all learning styles, attends to competence in basic skills, and incorporates "real life" learning experiences.

The Integrated Thematic Instruction model (ITI), which is built on a base of brain compatible instruction, guides the development of all of our programs. Similar curriculum materials are utilized in all classrooms, and all students are held to the same content and performance standards in all subject areas.
