In Creative Writing, we will practice the writing and grammar skills we are studying in English class in a relaxed, artistic environment. Using a combination of journal writing, grammar mini-lessons, and imaginative writing activities, this class will enrich a variety of skills including parts of speech, sentence combining, paragraph structure, and word choice. At the same time, we will thoroughly explore and practice the writing process to discover why precise, effective communication of ideas is important across the academic areas.
This is a Pass/Fail course. Students are expected to complete all in-class assignments, unless special circumstances exist, in order to earn a passing grade. Students will be excused from the daily journal and the grammar mini-lessons if they are absent; however, they will still need to complete a minimum of three creative writing projects (each writing project must demonstrate the use of the writing process: prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and final draft) and share at least one completed piece with the class (“Author’s Chair”) by the end of the quarter.
