BAND

So much going on!  I thought I would let you all know about some special events.

Saturday, April 20, the SHHS Concert Band performed at the CMEA (Calif Music Educators Assn) Band Festival at American Canyon High School.  This is a really fun and beneficial activity for the students because they perform for three judges, who make written and recorded comments at the performance and then give the band an instructional clinic afterward.  Before and after performing, they had the opportunity to listen to the other high school bands in the festival, so they got to receive feedback on their performance and experience other groups.  It was held in the beautiful new theater at American Canyon HS.

Saturday, May 4, the SHHS Jazz band will be performing in the Napa Valley Educational Jazz Festival at 6:00 in the Napa Opera House.  This event started out a few years ago as a few of the valley school bands performing in a small concert.  It has grown into a regulation jazz festival with professional performers and students performing in small combos in the lobby, the school jazz bands in the opera house, food, beverages and even a silent auction.  Our professional guests will be Keith Ridenour – sax, Kurt Nystrom – trumpet, Alan Parks and Bonnie Otto – rhythm section, David Parker – drums and will feature Bay Area jazz trombonist, Wayne Wallace.  Tickets can be purchased from the jazz festival website: www.napavalleyjazz.org

Thursday, May 16, the SHHS Concert and Jazz Bands will be performing in their annual spring concert in the SHES auditorium at 7pm.

Wednesday, May 29, the RLS and SHES bands and drummers will be presenting their annual spring concert in the SHES auditorium at 7pm.

For those of you with kids in choir, drama or band, this is very important:

The St. Helena Performing Arts Boosters is looking for people to fill some Board Positions for next school year.

SHPA Boosters is a dynamic team that is privileged to serve the talented performers K-12 and Performing Arts Educators (themselves talented performers!).

You might be a parent, grandparent or uncle/aunt of a child. Or maybe your Performing Arts child graduated but you would like to give back or stay connected with the ever-growing Arts Scene! You might love crunching numbers or networking, event planning or playing Liaison to a Teacher of Performing Arts.

Whatever your talents and interests, The SHPA Boosters welcome all interested folks to contact us.

And to be honest with you, just being part of SHPA’s Winter Event, “Evening of Romance,” makes the whole year worth it.

If you are interested in being part of this exciting team, please contact us at
shpaboosters@gmail.com <mailto:shpaboosters@gmail.com> or call Judith Rowlings Sainato at 707-529-1506.
