The St. Helena Chapter of Future Farmers of America welcomes you!
We have a young program, started in 2000, but in 9 years, we have built a tremendous membership of some 260 students, over 50% of the high school student body.
All students are welcome, no matter what their background or skill level -- you don't have to know anything about agriculture to join us. We provide the community and the educational opportunities that will help you develop your skills and interests in the agricultural fields.
Some of the highlights of FFA in St. Helena:
Livestock competition at the County and State Fairs
Science competitions at the State Fair and National Agriscience Fair in Indianapolis
National FFA Convention in Indianapolis
Tour of Washington, DC
Speech competitions throughout the region
The farm, where we grow a variety of our own crops
The pumpkin patch, an October fundraiser featuring our own pumpkins
Scholarships and degree programs
Many of our teachers and FFA members are also involved in these Career-Tech Ed fields:
The Viticulture Program
Food Sciences and Culinary Arts
Ag Mechanics (including welding and mechanical repair)
Interested, but not sure where to begin? Drop in to see teachers Randy Mendes, Laura Mendes, or Sarah Herdell. They'd be glad to share more with you.
Watch for the Ag Barn, a new facility that will house a number of the ag programs related to FFA.
The district will break ground soon on this invaluable addition to the high school.
